The hills are alive... with the sound of Music...

Picturesque town

The fortress from Mirabell gardens
Salzburg was much more beautiful than I imagined. The city's landscape is very picturesque, with the river followed by the buildings of the old town and the white Hohensalzburg fortress at the very top of the hill.

The film "Sound of Music" was shot in the region so you can see tours based on the movie. I didn't go on that one though as I didn't like being whisked away singing.. Instead I took the one to Eagle's Nest (in fact located in neighbouring Germany.)
A string group performing.

Music Music everywhere!

Classical music plays on the modern pedestrian bridge, and I must say the performers on the street are top notch! Watch out for the violin player(s) that play Spring from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, the glass chimes player and others! Truly quite a classical city...
Look at the street signs!

Ornate stuff

Even the shopping street Getreiderstrasse looks charming with its ornate store signs (even macdonald's has one too!). There are also many through paths between Getraiderstrasse and its parallel roads. If you have time to spare, explore the walkpaths on Mönschberg. There are spectacular views of the city, castle and also the mountains. And I mean really spectacular! And it's at no charge but you have to do loads of walking and self navigation.

Pros:"You do not have to spend a lot of money to see the sights around this city and get excellent bird's eyes views! Loads of daytours to the surrounding areas.."
Cons:"No cons"
In A Nutshell:"Charming city! The daytours are a good variety!"
