Wondering the streets of Pompeii Before you come to Pompeii, you would have already heard about this famous town buried under ashes around AD 79. It's remarkable in this fact because the people of today like you and me can actually walk the streets as it was, close to 2 thousand years ago! |
| | It's surreal to be walking the streets. The town is huge - however most of the towns buildings' roofs have already caved in so many places are exposed into the heat of the sun. Beware if you visit like in late August, the sun can take it's toll on you and make you dehydrate. I saw a few tourists got themselves real giddy while on tour there at this time of the year.
All the tourists were moving from shade to shade in the heat that day, as I met a Spanish tourist who likened everyone's actions like a dog scurrying from shade to shade. Hahaha!... But seriously the heat was no joke at all. I bought a 1.5 litre of plain water, but it was gone in 2 hours. If I had not bought it, there would have been real trouble for me as there are NO shops in the excavation site. |
| | It will be good to be on some tour with a guide or get yourself an audio guide. None of the sites in Pompeii gives description about the history, and you will be walking around clueless about the remains. |
