Thailand's former capital before Bangkok

by suhadis - last update: Jun 16, 2008

Ayutthaya on present day is a city with a historical park, which are clusters of ruins, after an attack by the Burmese army in 1767. It's been declared a UNESCO world heritage site since 1991.
I visited in May 2008, so this is quite a hot season, if it's not raining. Due to the large expanse of the ruins, you may need transport support. If you had gone on foot like me, the weather in this month can be really scorching hot and hamper your coverage of the different ruin sites. I only managed to visit Wat Mahathat and Wat Ratchaburana.

Pros:"Many ruins to see!"
Cons:"Prepare a lot of time to see this city if covering on foot. Research on season when visiting too for weather conditions."
