Getting there My husband and I drove from Batangas City to Paete on a Saturday. If you are coming from the South Luzon Expressway, I think it is still easier to take the road leading to Sto Tomas, BAtangas then take the Makban geothermal power plant road. This will lead you to Los Banos Laguna. You can take a stop over and have lunch at "Kamayan sa Palaisdaan." Another option is for you to wait until you get one town closer to PAete and try the "Exotic" restaurant. Here you can have your share of "sawa" or "bayawak" dishes. Travel time from Batangas City to PAete is around 2-2.5 hours. The picture attached was taken at "Kamayan sa Palaisdaan." |
Kape Kesada For a refreshing break, try visiting Kape Kesada along Quesada Street. It is an art gallery/coffee shop during the day and art gallery/music bar (acoustics) at night time during weekends. The paintings are works of young, promising painters from Paete. We met the owner of the place. He is a dentist by profession. He is very pleasant, warm, helpful and accommodating. |
The people/shops/parking We had a lovely afternoon that Saturday. Everybody was so nice and always ready with a smile. For shopping, go directly to those small factories/shops in town as the shops along the main highway are quite pricey. Haggling is part of every deal. You will find lots of wood carvings, paper mache, etc. Christmas decors are available the whole year. Parking is a bit of a problem though. If you find one, they usually charge you around P10-20 depending on the spot. |
