Don't be fooled by its website and other New York City, NY Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

The Gershwin Hotel has a superb website, but that's about it. Depending on your price range, you can have a higher end room or share a room with others hostel style. The room is small with old furniture. The bathroom is small too. Sometimes you get soaps, sometimes you don't. The bed is squishy. Essentially, all facilities are bare minimum. We didn't see any significant artworks in the hotel as claimed on the website. We were disappointed by this accomodation. However, this hotel is a little cheaper than the others we considered. So price makes a big difference in the city.

We had a medium range room with private bathroom for $180.

Unique Qualities: Great location for exploring the city.
Newly opened Museum of Sex is next door. We didn't go in, so can't really comment.

I saw this article in the New York Times that listed ten budget hotels in New York City. I've stayed at one of the hotels mentioned and didn't think it was all that jazz. It just goes to show how expensive NYC hotels are. A good place to start if you are looking for comparatively cheaper accomodations. Good luck
