MY city Zagreb is the city I live in since I was born, so I can tell you many good and bad things concerned. But nonetheless, you should definitely come for a visit. Every year Zagreb attracks more and more tourist because people have realized that the dangerous war is far behind us and that nowadays Zagreb is one of the most peaceful places on earth. I suggest a visit during the spring because summers are too hot and winters too cold. Bring only a pocket of money and a good mood - youŽll have a great time! |
Zagreb is an old city, from 11th century, origins being even older. Nevertheless it never became a giant city like other European capitals, probably the biggest reason being that Croatia was almost never independent country until 1990. So all the money was invested in 3 Bs, Budapest, Bec (Vienna in Croatian) and finally Belgrad. Now old facades are being renewed, squares are regaining their old charm and bright colours. Zagreb is today at its best ever and that is something noone should miss. |
Since it is not too big, almost everything can be seen on foot, you won't get lost and still there are many things to see and visit. Some people will tell you it's minimized Vienna or Budapest. Do not be fooled, yes there are many similarities in architecture, because many centuries we were in austro-hungarian empire, but Zagreb is so much more than that. It is a bit of a mixture, but it still managed to keep its specific charm. You will get to feel the tempo of life, not the "allegro" or "presto" like in other European cities, here it is "lento", people stop take a cup of coffee and enjoy life. |
