WOW I flew straight into Phuket initially, so I had already somewhat acclimatized to Thailand when I first encountered Bangkok. I can only imagine the shock had I began here! This city atacks all your sensec at once. The stifling heat and humidity. thick lungfulls of breath. you can taste Bangkok. it is a visual smorgasboard! poverty and royal grandeaur side by side. Modern and ancient coexist. I barely experienced anything here, being as I stayed 4 nights total. I do believe that any more than that would be way too much, but I was left intrigued rather than exausted. |
| weekend covered market gets HOT |
| | Chatuchak market absolutely must go here! absolutely get the Nancy Chandler map. Huge WEEKEND 'outdoor' ?market. it encompasses many city blocks. permanent and temporary structures together and mostly covered. many areas open, alternating with plastic tarp covering. the greenhouse effect here relentless. remember to hydrate often! best advice you can take. very easy to lose your bearings in this maze, but you simply wander into more treasures! sidewalks surrounding this market are lined with craft ( and collectible) vendors
give yourself the better part of a morning/afternoon to browse and haggle. food available. skytrain stops very close Mo Chit or Saphan Khwai stations- 5 minute walk each |
