"Nyksund" Nyksund by arantha

Nyksund, also know as the "ghost town", is the old traditional fishing village. In the beggining of the 20th century was a prospeprous settlement, but because of accumulative fishing market and the governmental policy, lost its position in favour of other fishing villages located in Lofotens. In the beginning of the 80's almost all villagers moved out and Nyksund bacame the abandoned town. Many years later Nyksund has been visited by a German traveller, who decided to save this place, as the evidence of the old Norwegian fishing culture. He started a lot of projects to protect the town and avoid its going to rack and ruin. He died in 2001, but only owning to his hard work we are able to get to know this worth seeing 'living' example of the old Norwegian culture.
