COLOGNE 2005 - XX World Youth Day

by Diana75 - last update: Jan 10, 2006

“We have come to worship Him”

Cologne - waiting for the Pope
Well guys, like all German cities that I've started to discover better just last year, Cologne is a lovely city.

A lovely city to visit, to live in, to explore and to host between 16th and 21st of August 2005 such an important event as the XX World Youth Day.

The motto of the XX World Youth Day was "We have come to worship Him" - Jesus Christ.

Pope John Paul II was the one who founded World Youth Day and this celebration is open to anybody who wants to participate, not only to Catholics.

The World Youth Day is in fact a pilgrimage of young people and a celebration of solidarity.

A celebration, yes, but also much more than a single word can say...
Koln Messe - another meeting point

Impressive... Undescribable...

Un unique experience not to be missed!

Hundreds of thousands of young people from all over the world met in this occassion in Cologne.

And this World Youth Day in Cologne was for most of them more special, because was the first one celebrated together with the Pope Benedikt XVI.
It was no time to explore the beauties of Cologne, but to stay together with other young people, to sing, to celebrate, to pray...

Joy, silent prayers, meetings, concerts, solemn messes, discussions or cultural events. WYD had something to offer to all the participants.

And I will not say more.
I will just leave the pictures I've taken to show you what a great celebration it was.

See you all in 2008 in Sydney, Australia!

I also been to World Youth Days in Cologne. Night in Marienfeld was so cold. Your Cologne page took memories from there:)

Impressive cathedral! Very touching, unique and beautiful treavelogues. I like "Pope John Paul II was with us in Cologne" and "The young pilgrims didn't forget John Paul II". I can't forget Czestochowa, Poland in 1991 (1.6 mln).
