ANTWERP – The “Metropolis”

Antwerp is not only the second largest city of Belgium, but also the second largest harbour of Europe, after Rotterdam (Netherlands) and ... my favourite town in Belgium.

But Antwerp doesn't live only through its harbour. This elegant city has numerous places of interest, most of its buildings dating from the 16th and the 17th century, the so-called "golden era" of Antwerp.

The city is also famous because Peter Paul Rubens lived here in early 17th century and his house can be visited downtown.

The city's inhabitants proudly call Antwerp the "Metropolis".

I enjoyed your page a lot. A lot of great architecture and surely Godiva chocolate :-) Thanks for refreshing my great Antwerp memories. I see, I have to revisit this lovely city.

Enjoyed your pages on Antwerp. The day we were there, it rained almost the whole day - very disappointing. I really liked their Main Square with the beautiful buildings. And I love Belgian chocolate & Belgian frites.
