| | "And the winner is... Lillehammer".
These were the words pronounced by Juan Antonio Samaranch when the small norwegian town of Lillehammer has been choosen to host the Winter Olympics in 1994.
And it certainly was a full success.
Lillehammer with its 25,100 inhabitants is situated at the southern end of the Gudbrandsdal valley on the northern shore of Mjosa Lake.
The town was founded in 1827 and was granted with town status in 1842.
Today's Lillehammer is an important destination for sports fans. Here is one of Europe's best cross-country ski resorts that can be used during both winter and summer.

Other attractions in and around Lillehammer:

matcrazy1 Sun Feb 18, 2007 00:26 UTC Norwegian Olympic Museum and Lysgardsbakkene Ski Jumping Arena sound interesting, not to mention downhill and bobsleighing simulator. The views down are breathtaking. | LoriPori Tue Oct 3, 2006 12:20 UTC Wow what wonderful views of Lillehammer from the Ski Jump Area. Looks like a lovely town to explore. | traveldave Wed Jun 7, 2006 16:38 UTC Lillehammer looks like a nice little town. And I bet without the Olympics, not many people would know about it, let alone go there. | deecat Wed May 31, 2006 15:18 UTC How interesting to see Lillehammer without the snow! Good descriptions and keen photographs. |
