  • Ponte di San Martino used to be the only bridge over the river Sile and consequently the only entrance point to the city and access point to the alpine regions.

  • The church of Saint Nicholas was built by Domenicani following the instructions of brother Niccolo' Boccalino, better known as Papa Benedetto XI.

Located on the outskirts of Treviso central area, the church is characterized by simple forms, lengthen on the upper side, in line with the transition from Romanic to Gothic architecture.

  • San Nicolo' church inside is divided by columns in three naves, most of them being decorated with paintings of Tomaso da Modena and his pupils.

In the presbytery is the tomb of Agostino Onigo with sculptures of Antonio Rizzo and paintings of Lotto.

Following the restructuring works held in the church, the beautiful wooden ceiling was cleaned, while the pavement made of red marble from Verona was modified according to the original plans.

    Things To Do: Canale Siletto
  • Tip Rating:
  • Siletto is one of the 3 canals that run through the downtown of Treviso.

Together with the river Sile and other smaller rivers, Siletto has for Treviso the same importance as the channels for Venice.

These are supplying the necessary water for the green areas in the city, transforming Treviso in a real garden city.

  • Probably its importance is lower than in other Italian cities, the role of main meeting point and center of the city being taken by the beautiful Piazza dei Signori.

Beside the beautiful facade of the Dome and the entrance to the Baptistery, there are other interesting old buildings that can be admired in Piazza del Duomo.

Things To Do: Il Duomo di Treviso
  • Tip Rating:
  • The first edifice of the Dome was built in Romanic style on the site of an old crypt at the beginning of the XII century.

Following numerous restructuring works both the inside and the outside of the Dome have been modified during the years, in 1836 the whole plan of the inside being changed according to the neoclassical style by Giordano Riccati.

A large stairway and six ionic columns supporting a triangle characterize the Dome's facade.

The inside is divided in three naves by strong columns.

The main altar is dedicated to the Saints Tabra, Tabrata and Teonist, and is made by Tullio Lombardo.

One of the most important works of the Dome is to be found in the chapel on the right and is the Annunciation by Titian.

Things To Do: Piazza dei Signori
  • Tip Rating:
  • The core of the city life is the area delimited by Palazzo della Prefettura, Palazzo dei Trecento and Cal Maggiore called Piazza dei Signori.

The square took its name from Treviso's Palazzo della Signoria, located nearby, which was half of Palazzo del Podesta' of our days.

The square is today the favorite meeting place for both locals and visitors, during weekends interesting books markets and concerts being organized here.

Great Treviso page. at the beginning it was for me only an overnight stay alternative when visiting Venice but later I noticed its outstanding charme. I come back - and if it is only for a short stroll and an "ombra"

Great presentation of beautiful architecture + info (I didn't know that tiramisu is from Treviso, too! I am lucky to find Molinetto di Treviso :-). Haha, once i stopped in Treviso and took short walk around, the only picture I took way just by the mill.
