Luxor was the final destination of our 4-days Nile cruise. We arrived in Luxor in the second evening on board and spent there two wonderful days and... nights.
Luxor has only three main streets: Sharia al-Mahatta (the street in front of the train station), Sharia al-Karnak (or Maabad al-Karnak, meaning Karnak Temple Street) and the Corniche, next to the Nile.
Actually, Luxor is made of three different areas: the City of Luxor on the East side of the Nile, the town of Karnak just north of Luxor and Thebes, on the west side of the Nile across from Luxor.
Today's Luxor is a city of 150,000 inhabitants and beside the famous attractions sites, if you take a walk on the streets you might notice other interesting buildings such as the National Bank of Egypt and the Winter Palace.
And if you really want to feel the city atmosphere don't forget to take a walk in the bazaar. |

Jerelis Sun Jul 22, 2007 18:56 UTC Beautiful pictures of a "wanna go there" destination. Thanx for sharing! | Kuznetsov_Sergey Fri Jun 15, 2007 17:34 UTC A very interesting and detailed page with beautiful pics. Thanks Diana for bringing back sweet memories from my April trip. Yes, Luxor is worth visiting especially with cruise tour. $1 gives an opportunity to make a photo in distant tombs when tourists... | matcrazy1 Sun Jan 7, 2007 17:21 UTC Outstanding pictures and interesting info. No video cameras, no photos inside tombs sounds very bad for me! | tiabunna Sun Nov 5, 2006 12:05 UTC Marvellous photos and interesting reading. I suspect Luxor will remain a “wishlist” destination for me, but I enjoyed the ‘virtual visit’ provided by your page. |
