"Xi'an" a Xi'an Travel Page by easterntrekker

Once known as Eternal Peace and now known as Western Peace ( Xi'an) , this is a part of China we came to only because of the fame of the Terra Cotta soldiers.
I can' t say I knew much of the history of this area before our visit and even though I managed to grasp such a small bit while there, I at least got a better appreciation of the thousands of years of mankind that passed before us. Its overwhelming to think about the enormous span of years of lifetimes , of working ,of living, learning and fighting. Man just keeps going on. Maybe that's the lesson that has been left behind and represented by the Terra Cotta Soldiers.

However during the Tang dynasty this area once held once held control over the Silk Routes . There were infact two million inhabitants here and was most likely the largest settlement in the world.

Xi'an was cool and very smoggy on the day we visited in September. We roamed around the City Wall area and got a view of both the old and new city.
