While visiting northern Thailand we decided to venture over the border to Mynamar.
We crossed over with a guide and had no problems at all. From Chiangrai the nearest physical border is also Thailand's most Northerly point, Mae Sai. Here Burma, Union of Myanmar, is separated from Thailand by the river Sai and are joined by a bridge.
We paid $5.00 at the border crossing at Mai Sai. I think it is best to go with a guide , as the area and border crossing can change . |
| | There were lots of people walking over. Our driver left his vehicle on the Thai side and we walked in. |

Mikebb Sat Sep 1, 2007 08:17 UTC Hi Anita, Must have been an interesting day, are the guides easy to get? | albaaust Sat Aug 11, 2007 12:43 UTC Thanks for visiting my page. We thought about doing this when we were in Chiang Mai. Ended up going into Burma proper which was an experience. | Confucius Fri Apr 13, 2007 08:04 UTC The Myanmar border "incursion excursion" appears to be an amusing thing to do in northern Thailand. It sounds like no visa is required as well, and that's good news. |
