Salzburg

by easterntrekker - last update: Aug 28, 2008

Salzburg is a beautiful ancient city. It has a long history and can trace the first settlements back to the Celts. It was around 15 BC the separate settlements were merged into one city by the Romans .The name Salzburg literally means "Salt Castle", and derives its name from the barges carrying salt on the Salzach river

For the visitor there is much to see and do. Castles, churches, famous music, wonderful food and a beautiful city surrounded by mountains.
