Once Antigua was the capital city of Guatemala. It had been destroyed several times by earthquakes . Finally in 1773 a huge quake reduced it to rubble and the capital was moved to Guatemala city. The historic city that remains , is breathtakingly beautiful. |
| | A rare beauty We really weren't prepared for the beauty of Antigua. Pictures in no way can do it justice . Narrow cobble stone streets leadiing to picture perfect ancient houses and inns, vocanic mountains and crumbling ruins...we have never seen anything quite like it! |
| | So much beauty |

jumpingnorman Fri Feb 20, 2009 01:37 UTC Hi Anita! Nice Guatemala pages -- hoping to visit it! You look good but lost (is that you?) in the Central Market, hehehe...nice pics - love the baby pic! Interesting place with fireworks and empty ATM's! Norman :) | mircaskirca Mon Sep 8, 2008 22:32 UTC Lovely page of Antigua!! I think it's quite impossible not to fall in love with this charming city! Convento de las Capucinas is such a beautiful place as are the patios of the old colonial houses. Frida's seems a cool place :) |
