Disney World for Nature Lovers I am racking my brain on how to represent Yosemite differently than the 70+ other VT pages about the park. It is a difficult task especially since we all like to highlight the most spectacular region of the Valley. So... on my main page I will place pictures of different regions within the Park.
There are 5 different regions of the Park that attract 3.5 million visitors a year: 1) Yosemite Valley 2) Wawona- Mariposa Groves 3) Glacier Point 4) Tuolumne Meadows 5) Hetch Hetchy
There seems to be a running theme with our visits to National Parks. 3 of the last 5 National Park visits we've had incredible bear sightings. Of course, Yosemite did not let us down...Check out my wildlife page(General Tips) to see our new friends. |
| | Getting There... We drove from San Fran to Lake Tahoe to Yosemite. From Lake Tahoe to Yosemite NP we took about 3.5-4 hours to the Big Oak Flat entrance. The roads are winding and best to go slow if you are not familiar with the area.
If you are coming from Merced, CA (70 miles away)- Take Rt-140 to the Arch Rock Entrance. Coming from the West take Rt-120 to the Big Oak Flat entrance. Coming from Fresno and the south, take 41 to the South Entrance.
It is a 4 hour drive straight from San Fran, and 6 hours from Los Angeles. |

| | So much to see and do.. The one disadvantage of visiting in the Spring is that all the park is not fully open yet. Tioga Road which is a paved road that runs thru the entire park was still in the process of being snow plowed.
Some days you will need to pile on the clothing layers and others you will be wearing shorts and tank top.
The park is open-year round and depending on the season is a good indicator of the crowdedness of the popular regions. |

| Pros: | "Way too many to list .." | | Cons: | "Trail heads were not marked very well.. we got lost a few times" | | In A Nutshell: | "A week is not enough....but you get the picture! :)" |
