Favorite Thing: This is a picture I took While in Nassau it shows a family hunting and cleaning Conch shells to resell. They do seem to sell good at the Straw Market. I could buy one for about $10.00
Fondest Memory: My best memory of Nassau was just pulling up to the dock and seeing it for the very first time.

Favorite Thing: There really isn't much good snorkeling from the beach. There are no longer a healthy reef systems near the beach. Jet skis, ski boats and other behaviours have depleted the reefs. The only one that has a few fish left is at the Radisson, but the hotel no longer allows cruisers the use of the property (and the beach is not accessible by walking along the waterline) If you want to see colorful fish and healthy coral, you'll have to take a boat tour to a healthy reef or sea garden. f you want to hang out at the beach, you can use the Nassau Beach hotel and Wyndham at Cable Beach (they are right next door to the Radisson).
Fondest Memory: The straw market

Favorite Thing: SAVE MONEY!!!!! Spending the least amount of money...try the jet ski guys on the beach after 4:00pm...they will cut their prices ...try to ask for smoky or kevar! wheel & deal with all vendors on the beach if interested as well as the straw market downtown! Eating out..the seaside buffet next door at the wyndham is 50% off on Mon & wed...and also take the #10 jitney (outside the hotel) to the "fish fry" (an area with about 10 restaurants) this is where the locals eat ...try "seafood haven" ..i got an awesome lobster dinner for $20!
Stay away from the Nassau cruises to the blue lagoon..they said the price was $25 but we went to get tickets it was $45...what a rip off! Here is a page you might like: http://www.majesticholidays.com/tours/excursiont/excursiont.htm
Fondest Memory: Running back to catch the ship before if left!!

Favorite Thing: All the beaches in the Bahamas are public. No one can stop you or charge you for using a beach. You can access the beach on a little path at the side of what is now the Riu Paradise Hotel (used to be Sheraton). What you are charged for is if you want a tour of the Atlantis property. That is $25.00. You can not get up from the beach to their property without a wristband.
Fondest Memory: The people!!

traveldave Sun Sep 25, 2005 16:30 UTC Nassau has some interesting things to see and do, but I thought it was a little too "touristy" for my tastes. | Stephen-KarenConn Mon Sep 19, 2005 21:09 UTC Excellent page! You make me wanna go to the Bahamas right now. Actually, Karen and I are taking a Caribbean cruise, coming up in three weeks. It will be our first, and I can hardly wait. |
