So, we left LAX at 2:45 pm on Wednesday, the 21st. Arrived in Frankfurt about 11 hours later. A two hour lay over and then flew into Athens for another 3 hours or so. Another 2 hour lay over in Athens before we flew to Santorini, another 2-3 hour flight arriving on the 22nd. at about 10 pm in the evening. So, it seemed like we traveled for two whole days but in reality was about 21 hours of travel.
But....it was worth it! We got to our hotel room, had a good night's rest and was ready for the day. And, what a gorgeous day it was. The weather was fantastic! The second day, a storm came in. There was thunder and lightening. The skies became dark and the rain poured down. I thought the whole day was shot. About 1 1/2 hours of this and it stopped. The sky cleared up. Puffy white clouds dotted the blue skies and the sun was shining brightly. It became quite warm that day. The third day, we hopped on the Blue Star Ferry back to Athens. That was a long boat ride back. I think it took us about 8 hours to get there. It was good opportunity for me to sleep and get adjusted to the time change. |
|  | Over all, the short visit was enough. My biggest disappointment was not being able to see the excavations in Akrotiri. Closed due to the collapse within the excavations from the year before is what we were told.
Took lots of photos - some good ones, too!
