Visited our nation's capitol in Feb. 2009

January 20, 2009 The United States of America has a new president, Barack Obama. I was hoping I would get a glimpse of him during my visit to DC in February. But not a chance. He was busy at Congress trying to get that stimulus packaged passed. I did not vote for him but...I am elated to see our nation evolve and elect a president not based on his ethnicity. It represents the progress we have made in this country to overcome racism. Yay for us!

I had a fantastic trip! I was able to see just about everything I wanted to see except for the White House tour. At the moment, all tours of the White House are postponed and not sure when they intend on allowing the tours to start up again.

I was very fortunate to encounter some decent weather during my visit. This would not have been the best time of the year to come but I happened to be there for business and stuck around a few more days to see the city. They say it's really beautiful to go when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. But then, I imagine all the sights are packed full of tourists at that time, too.

Please check out my travel tips on restaurants, things to do, shopping and transportation. I hope they are helpful. With only four days to see DC, I didn't get to see everything I wanted. I will definitely have to make a second trip there one day.

If you are not familiar with DC, it's actually a small city/state. So, within minutes you can be in Virginia or Maryland. The DC Metro travels to these other states as well for a limited distance. Therefore, I may have posted tips not actually in the zip code of DC but easily reached from DC. I hope that isn't confusing.
