Firenze, Fantastico! - Florence

By the time we reached Florence on our Italian vacation, we had already spent a little more than a week visiting Rome and various cities in Tuscany such as Montalcino and Pisa.

Firenze is my boyfriend's favorite Italian destination. He says it's a "classy town". There is a wonderful feel and I think mostly in part of the people. Certainly, seeing the Duomo was the highlight of Firenze and a visit to the Uffizi, as well. Great shopping to be had and the foooood was amazing!

Not so great....all the tourists! Thousands and thousands of them! Oh, but, I was there, too. And, I guess, I added to the tourist factor. Going early in the morning to the Uffizi is a great idea. Also, climbing the Duomo early in the morning is less crowded (something to keep in mind).

We had given up our rental car when we arrived on the outskirts of the city center because you are not allowed to drive there. And, having a car really isn't necessary. Everything seemed to be in walking distance for us and that was great! It looked like there were many of events going on in the evening. We just didn't seek out anything in particular. But of what I saw, some art gallery shows and live band performances. What we did see which was fun was a car race through town, the 1000miglia! Please check out my travelogue for race pics!

    Bet the food was terrifically expensive!But still Florence was one of our favourite parts of italy.Have a look at my home photo on florence.
