Paris in the winter

by GracesTrips - last update: Nov 1, 2007

We visited Paris in during Thanksgiving week. We had purchased unbelievable roundtrip airfare to Paris but needed to travel during the off season. We were fortunate to have good weather (rained only 1 day during our 7 day stay) but it was very cold by California standards. We were warned about how the French don't care for Americans but we encountered no such treatment. We always said "Bon jour" and "Parlez-vous anglais" - the response was always good - most can speak English when asked politely. Because the days are short during the winter months and traveling with kids (3, ages 10-18) we didn't get to experience much of the night life there. Would love to go back - do a few days in Paris and travel towards the south of France by train next time. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. I have so many more photos but picked out the unusual ones for your view.

Once in Paris, you should include a visit to the Palace of Versailles. It is most impressive and memorable!
American Food!

Hard Rock Cafe - We could not be happier to have an American meal by our 4th day there. The French food was great but basically all the same (crepes/sandwiches). We were able to do Chinese one day which was also very good. Another reason for scouting out the HRC was to purchase a few pins to add to my collection. The kids were all troupers when it came to gallivanting around town. The metro was a lifesaver in lieu of walking. Our only decent photo of us as a group.
Pastry Counter

I was scolded for taking this picture inside the Galeries LaFayette. Apparently, photographs are not allowed in this particular shopping center. I can only assume it is because they do not want their "wares" to be duplicated. I so wanted to take a picture of the bread counter.
During our entire trip - our basic food staple were pastries and sandwiches. We loved it!
