We boarded the train in Paris and traveled to Versailles. A man aboard the train was playing traditional French music on the accordian for tips. That was actually refreshing as we were surprised to find most establishments, where ever we went, were playing American music.
It was about a 15-20 minute walk to the The Palace of Versailles. Wow, this was an impressive place was my first thought! The architecture was amazing and it was well preserved. We visited in November during the week of Thanksgiving. The day appeared dreary so the gardens were not as green as they would be in the Spring. The flowers were not in bloom. But the gardens still appeared to be grand!
I wish I could post the story behind the existance of the palace but I hate to get it wrong. I'm sure you can find several sites that have this story. You should become knowledgeable prior to your visit. It will help you to visualize what transpired on the premises as you see it. For example, the walls inside the palace have picturesque paintings on them. If you really look carefully, you will see small doors in a room. They blend in without notice. I was told these were escape or secret routes within the palace. Pretty cool! |
