Cork City is my home town,it is now a city with a population of about 200,000. It is quickly becoming a very cosmopolitan and multi racial city and it is vibrent.Cork C. is the capitol of county cork, their are 32 counties in Ireland and county cork is geographicly the biggest.Cork is called the "rebel" county as it was to the forefront of rebelion under british rule which ended in 1922.
Cork is rashers and drisheen,Murphy's stout and pigs crubeens.Other irish counties accuse us of being arrogant which is understandable as we know we are the best! :) proud sporting county, hurling and football, road bowling, soccer, cricket and drag hunting,to name but a few.Its a county of great diversity and yes we do have a good sense of humour with the ability to laugh at ourselves. We are a welcoming people,so please come and visit. If I can be of any help dont hesitate to contact me!
This is where the River Lee rises at Gouganne Barra on the Cork/Kerry border
This is where Saint Finbarr lived hundreds of years ago.It is still a beautiful scenic and peaceful place and very popular for weddings. It also has a lovely nature park.See www.gouganebarra.com
- Pros:laid back city,the natives are tame :-)
- Cons:Cons? all the cons were transported to Van Demons Land! :-)
- In a nutshell:Cork is not too big or too small, steeped in culture, proud and friendly

Hi Frank, Just to add my favourite to your slang page - "Cork - the only place where "I will yeah" means no" :) That one always brings a smile to my face.
Delighted to finally see this excellent page in the Top 5 :))
Great tips and photos. Thanks especially for the slang tip! Best from New Jersey, Bill
LOL, the natives of Cork are friendly!! Mr. Connolly's grandparents hail from Ireland, one from Co. Kerry, one from Co. Cork. His grandmother's maiden name was O'Sullivan. Aye, Guinness & Murphy's - the good stuff!
Lovely town, the night photo on your homepage is really great and the coat of arms is super. Excellent updates but I wish you hadn't left out the old intro, which showed the essence of Cork. Tell me when you have added more.
Thank you Frank for the birthday wishes. Lina
