Cappadocia Region was a volcanic area. All the valleys and fairy chimneys are formed from the lava and tuff. Mother Nature tried to ease her pain and formed green valleys between the volcanic rocks. And the ancient citizens carved little holes for pigeons to help her. You can hear the songs of the birds in the deep valleys. They are still singing for her.
Tuff is a substance which is easy to carve, so ancient citizens of the area used the rocks as houses. Also they carved shelves, benches and tables in the houses. It is really practical to be able to carve some new holes for new needs. If you buy new books, you can carve some more places. I’d like to have a house like that.
Also nature herself carved many different things from tuff. Fairy chimneys are some of them.
Thanks to my friends, this was the most exciting and unbelievable vacation I’ve ever had. I kept smiling after one week while I was looking our photographs.
This one is our last evening and last sunset in Cappadocia.
I put all my Cappadocia tips in Urgup page because our base (Elkep Evi) is in Urgup. So, don't miss my other pages like Uchisar, Goreme, Hacibektas... They are some other locations of Nevsehir and all related to this page.
- Pros:Unbelievable nature
- In a nutshell:Meet unspoiled, helpful and kind locals

We see this on TV a lot and hope to get there one day. You have done a fine job of showing the wonderful living and cultures.
Special pages for an unique landscape. Congrats...
Marvelous place. Underground cities are stunning. Hope we'll see them some day (we adore Yerebatan Saray). BTW pumpkin seeds are great and very common in Serbia.
I didn't get to Pasabagi and a few other places that you got to visit. Ran out of time, and like you, after long days of hiking, was exhausted at the end of 4 days. One area I would like to re-visit.
Great information! Thanks for sharing.
What an interesting full of details page about Urgup and Cappadocia! Thank you Ozlem for bringing back sweet memories about your wonderful country!
amazing tips and photos! thank u so much!
Fun story well told... how lucky were you! Very jealous, and over Cappadocia too. Perfect.
Great page, a place Ive not been to yet but want to one day. Love frescoes too-the Catalanya museum in Barcelona has FANTASTIC collection (some pics in my pages)and pics in Kritsa,Crete if you want to see.I love the art of Europe!
well, it took a while but I wanted to go thru everything you have written and photographed so well. You're right - the crater lake is indeed very nice. Enjoyed this page, thanks for sharing, will be back for Istanbul page. N.
