"Stuck in 70’s" Cyprus by ozalp

Cyprus, especially northern part is always in our lives. It has a huge Turkish population and during ’74, Turkey helped them to survive the problematic period of the island. This situation formed an unbreakable connection between Turkey and Northern Cyprus and here, in Turkey we name our country as “motherland” and Northern Cyprus as “child land”.
Cyprus is the biggest problem between Greece and Turkey and Northern Cyprus does not exist in bureaucratic world. I don’t want to offend anyone with my tips. I know all the wars have two sides and no one can tell you which side is to blame. There is one thing to be sure: Lots of people have suffered. Please warn me if you find something offensive in my pages.
This land was always there, in the news, weather forecast, on newspapers, like a part of our country. But we knew that it is a different place. I realized better that it is a different country when I go there via duty free.
One of my friends I travelled with was born in Cyprus. Her father was a Turkish Cypriot from Nicosia. She was our guide and only driver in this trip. She told us that Cyprus was changed a lot and is so modern now. But I felt that we were travelling in a 70’s movie scene. Shops, streets, signs, hotels reminded me my childhood. And I must admit that I loved it.

We have visited lots of cities in North Cyprus. Everyone has its own stories. But I'll try to tell a single story of the whole country, the whole but divided, half country. I won't tell you the sad stories, though. I haven't suffered with them. I was born in the year which Northern Cyprus separated from Southern part.
