I love ballet, and am blessed to live in a city with a forward looking company, like the SF Ballet. The company has lost some fine dancers in the past few years, most of them retired, but a solid core remains and many of our best are in the prime of their careers.
I have left pictures from Balanchine's Apollo, danced by Gonzalo Garica (an enthusiastic dancer who never fails to impress me, and is also a very sociable person offstage: a genuine artist in his prime) and the Three Muses (Caliope, danced by Vanessa Zanahorian- not one of my favorites, but gets cast for such roles; Polyhimnia, danced by Sarah Van Patten- another dancer who seems to get casted, IMO, a little too much for major roles and who does not deliver performances of strong enough calibre; and lastly Tepsichore, danced by Yuan Yuan Tan- one of my favorites in the compnay, not for her presence, but for her solid technique and icy chimera onstage. I never saw her dance Tepsichore, but I think it would be worth seeing.)
