    • We went on a beautiful (steep) hike behind the St. Bartholomew's church/restaurant. This hike brought us through fairy tale forests of red, yellow and orange. There are several books on the hiking through Berchtsgaden and there are also huts placed throughout for long hikes-providing refreshments and a bed to sleep.

    • Eagle's Nest was given to Hitler as a birthday present for his 50th birthday. Hitler was scared of heights and only visited around 10 times and often for no longer than 30 minutes. Take the bus up to Eagle's Nest from Obersalzburg. You must reserve a return trip ride down prior to going up. Plan at least 2 hours for the ride, time to enjoy the view and to have a beer at the restaurant. If you are planning lunch at Eagle's Nest, plan on 3 hours.
    The ride up the mountain is very beautiful but nauseating for some. The road is considered a feat of engineering. It was blasted from solid rock and completed in only 13 months time. The road winds through the NW side of the mountain with only one switchback.
