Paid a short visit to Istanbul for the 2nd time in 3 years. The first time there I was mesmerized with the city. The 2nd time there I realized the degradation of this wonderful city. The fact that you have to be on constant alert every time you have an interaction with someone there (starting from the person who sells you the otobus tickets, for example) quickly gets tiring. Yes, it's not uncommon to take advantage of tourists, but as I said, it got very tiring and ruined the mood in Istanbul. Of course, not everyone is like that. Things are a lot more pleasant the further you are from the tourist center (Cemberlitas, Sultanahmet, etc.), say in Kadikoy, north on the Bosphorus, etc. |
