    • This is the other hilltop fortress in Alicante. Just head toward it and you'll find a way to get up. It was never finished and it's been in a state of decline since the war of succession. It's great to walk around, weeds growing everywhere, great views, magnificent doorways to nowhere, and statues of lions overlooking the city. It's sort of a museum of great aspirations and the forces of nature instead of objects of art, and lends itself well to 'spiritual fulfillment' if you know what I mean. If you're a fan of the desolate scenery in Amoldóvar's films, this place is proof that Spain still exists. In Alicante you can find desolation in the middle of a pulsating city.

    • Or Masa Crítica, as it's called here. Meet up with your bicycle around the fountain in front of the Plaza de Toros on the last Saturday of each month and bring your folding bicycle if you have one, or pick one up cheap in Alicante while you're here. The ride leaves at 12:00 noon, and tours the city on bike. If you've never been on one of these rides, the idea is that when there are enough bicycles on the street, it becomes alot safer for cyclists. It's a reinforcement to drivers that there are cyclists on the road and they are traffic and have equal rights. And for the cyclists, it's a great time with a friendly atmosphere.

    • The most famous race in sailing will start in Alicante in 2008!! Be sure to be here - the party starts in early October with an in-port race on the 4th, and then the boats set off around the world on 11 October. This is going to be wild!
