Paris of South America

A Very European City in South America

We visited Buenos Aires last August of 2005 and we stayed at the Louis Suites Recoleta. A very upscale neighborhood, with european styled buildings around. It was in the middle of winter when we got there and the weather was just nice. Our hotel was near the park, Recoleta cementery (where you'll find Evita's tomb) and Our Lady of Peace Church. This park transforms into a lively flea market on weekends. Many things to buy and food to try, don't forget to buy a pair of earrings or 2 they are cheap and stylish.

I enjoyed shopping at Calle Florida for leather products, very good quality and styles, I've seen very impressive designs from Prune. On Fridays they have tango performers in the streets of Calle Florida, cross the street and find Prune leather shop inside Galleria Pacifico. I also enjoyed the taste of their Malbec wines we even brought home 2 bottles.

Pros:"Best shopping for leather items like shoes and bags, sweets and Malbec wines."
Cons:"I really didn't have any difficulty going around BA, everyone was friendly and I felt safer than in any other cities I've visited in South America."
In A Nutshell:"I had a great time in Buenos Aires, the food, parillada, dulce de leche products, Malbec wines, visiting different historical places, Casa Rosada, Cabildo, shopping at Calle Florida for leather goods and yes the best brand is Prune..."
