"Lugo, Spain" Lugo by Shabu

The city of Lugo, which lies on the banks of the River Mino, was founded by the Romans sometime around 70 B.C. It is one of the least known cities in Galicia and is a world heritage site for its perfectly preserved and restored Roman walls. It is also one of the oldest cities in Galicia with numerous roman remains which you can now see in the well-stocked exibit rooms of the Provincial Museum.

Lugo is also home to a beautiful Romanesque cathedral that lies within the old walls. Adjacent to the cathedral you will find some of the best sites in Lugo, the Episcopal Palace, Baroque Plaza do Campo square and the central Plaza Mayor.

One of the main attributes of the city is the chance to enjoy magnificent meat and fish brought in from A Coruna. Walk around Calle de Cross, Nova, Mino and Bispo Basulta and take time to stop at some of the tapas bars for some great wine and food. In Lugo, great quantities of octopus are consumed.
