Welcome to my Beijing Pages, This was my first visit to China and it certainly won’t be my last, I was lucky that business took me to Beijing the political, economic and more important to me its also the cultural capital
Beijing has been Inhabited continuously for over 3000yrs and 34 emperors have ruled from here, its also home to the forbidden city and the worlds largest central square Tiananman square, there is also good access to the Ming tombs and the great wall with limited time I had to chose what I went to see, I chose The Temple of heaven and the great wall also a flying visit to the Ming Tombs
Beijing will get a lot of international cover, as they are hosts of the Olympic games in 2008.
Less than 30% of the wall remains today and most of the wall in the Beijing area dates from the Ming Destiny (1386 – 1644) it successfully held back marauders for centuries and now is a must see for any tourist visiting Beijing, there are excellent road links to cover the 50 or so kilometres to get there try Mutiaya only about 2 hours by car you take the cable cars up to reach the wall, walk for about 20mins and you will soon leave the tourists behind
It was built during the Ming Dynasty in 1420 during the reign of Emperor Yongle the most photographed part is the hall of prayer for the Good harvest this iconic circular building with the blue tiled roof seen here in the Photo above

A few years since I went to Beijing - I'm sure it has changed enormously. Ate a lot of odd things, but gave the snake a miss! Great photos -more to come? leyle
Thanks for sharing the rich history of Beijing. I must get there one day. Eating snake in dialet means to be lazy ;p I would love to try the snakes meat.
