I'm currently in Cairo (sept 2005) having just returned from two days down in Alexandria, I took a taxi down approx 2hrs 30mins which cost about £30 I had a lot of luggage for a conference there
Saw a pair of Hoopoe's just after taking this photo fantanstic looking birds ,With large Crests
DO get the train up to Cairo, I went second class on the Turbo express only £2.50 for a 2hr journey very good value, and a interesting way to see the way the local people live the train runs along side a canal/River and also the road so you get to see people at work and play!
The husstle and bustle of Alexandria stop at a pavement cafe and enjoy people watching with a nice cup of tea
- Pros:Fresh air, great people
- Cons:Driving habits and traffic

Lovely city and good hotel- until I found a hair in my juice-eugh
Alexandria is a lovely city! I didn't have time to go to Montaza, but hope to do so another time.
