São Paulo Shopping Tips by schurlif Top 5 Page for this destination
São Paulo Shopping: 47 reviews and 63 photos
This may or may not belong in the shopping section but I believe it does.... because I'm showing here how popular and sought after the clothing items of Bras are.
Just about every day , so I was told , busses loaded with people from inner State of São Paulo ascend on Bras like swarms of locust.....to buy up , it seems , whatever they can..... The worst day is supposedly Saturday when the average John and Jane from cities up to 300 km away come for their shopping trip..... On other days it's just the owners of clothes shops , also from cities up to some 300 km away.....
The busses arrive , their human load disperses in all directions , leaving the drivers behind without anything to do , the busses are parked in just about every street... This shopping trips are organized by local travel agencies in those cities , so the shoppers have a certain amount of time , 3 or 4 hours to find what they're after.... Then they get back to the bus , load everything in the cargo department ( where the driver has been sleeping for a few hours ) and all that done and everybody back , off they go home with their prey.....
A nice day for the shoppers , an even nicer day for the cash registers in the shops.....
What to buy: Clothes.......
but there are a few shops in Bras that don't sell clothes or there are sidewalk stands selling CDs, DVDs ( all pirated products ) , sunglasses , chinese made toys contrabanded from Paraguay , even at times counterfeit alcoholic drinks that are popular , like Amarula , fruit licor from South Africa or Baileys Chocolate licor......
These products are not recommendable......
The clothes are......
Directions: Bras , as always
Theme: Women's Clothes
Talking so much about the shops in Bras , why not have a look at some of them as they look from the street when you happen to walk by......
What to buy: Clothes , clothes ... and more clothes.....
and then another dozen items of clothes....
What to pay: Explained before , this is cheap ( moneywise ) but it's wholesale , so you got to buy a dozen items..... for peanuts....
Directions: Bras District east of Downtown S?o Paulo
Theme: Women's Clothes
I like those hindsights too...
First of all : BRAS is NOT the plural of bra, ...
it's a whole district east of the center of town where you have shop after shop after shop of wholesale great textile products , mostly made right in the back or upper floor of the shop. In a radius of , say, 500 meters around ground zero , the intersection of Rua Oriente with Rua Miller you will find everything your heart desires in fashionable clothes , blouses , jeans , you name it.....
B U T : it's wholesale , so you have to get minimum 6 items , mostly even 12....( different , don't have to be 12 same items )..
But what's the difference if you can get a dozen blouses for the price you'd spend for two in a boutique..? And just guess what ? The boutique owners in the posh shopping malls just as the clothes store owners from cities hundreds of kilometers away buy their merchandise right here !! My in laws come regularly twice a year like the locust from L.A. and shop till they drop and all shops in Bras are empty like the foliage after the grasshopper visit....... They arrive with 6 suitcases full of stuff for my kids and then fill those suitcases to the gills with bikinis , jeans , everything... Well , their's a big family and there are brothers and sisters and girlfriends and, and, and, and every one wants a brazilian jeans..... So imagine you can return home with quality, tight jeans , costing like 15 U$ each.....
That gives some nice presents to bring from a trip.....
Come with empty suitcases and fill them up in Bras !! For men too... !!!
And this is yet without mentioning shoes ( which to buy in other places...)
What to buy: São Paulo is not a city with great natural views , monuments , there's no beach .......
But these are the four things to do in São Paulo :
Have your convention here , stay at a wonderfull , first class hotel , go out and eat some of the best food available on the planet and GO SHOPPING !!!!!! ( Night life is also great here but I don't know too much about it...)
Buy textiles , shoes , leather goods , handicraft.... all these are tremendously cheap for foreigners....
( Don't buy electronics.... expensive and always lagging one technological generation behind...)
What to pay: A pair of jeans in Bras ( 12 minimum) costs about 20 to 25 U$ ( upper quality ) , a blouse between 5 and 15 U$ , a bikini 15 U$ ( the kind that would sell for 90 bucks in the States according to my sister in law... ( and it's only so expensive now because the dollar lost to the Real some 20 % in the past months , otherwise everything would be still 20 % cheaper )
Address: Bras District just east of Downtown São Paulo
Directions: Tell the taxi driver : "Bring me to Bras , intersection of Rua Oriente with Rua Miller".... and you will be right there , in the middle of it......
Theme: Women's Clothes
I personally H A T E shopping... I have a real problem with that , I never ever buy myself anything to wear.... but I have a lot of people who do that for me.... My bro-in-law from LA for instance who wears the exact same size shirt as I discovered this gem of a shirt store on Rua Oriente 1596..... He bought like two dozens of their shirts made out of some hard to describe , cool , light , no iron fabric that feels wonderfull on the skin... He showed me his shirts and asked me : "Do you want some of these?" , And , YES , do I want some of these...
Next day my LA locust grasshoppers were back in Bras and bro-in-law brought me two dozen shirts too..... easy , at 7 U$ the piece.....
So , I only wear two kind of shirts...... ( and ONLY short sleaves too...)
American , but Indonesia or India made Hawaiian type rayon shirts and Tutti Tanto smooth and nice on your skin shirts... especially when the temperature gets close to 40 degrees Celsius.....
What to buy: In this shop , shirts only......
What to pay: 84 U$ for 12 different shirts.... how about that ...?
Address: Rua Oriente 1596
Directions: Rua Oriente X Rua Miller , Bras District
Theme: Men's Clothes
This amassment of blue and other jeans is produced right there in the back of the shop....
and sold all over Brazil.....
Brazilian ( female) jeans are low cut and have some kind of elasticity that makes the pants smuck glued like a glove to the beautifull babes butts and legs....
Hey..... don't blame me for what I'm saying...... THIS is THE reason why brazilian jeans and brazilian babes butts are sooooo famous !!!!!
What to buy: Jeans
What to pay: depending on model up to max 30 U$....
Directions: Rua Oriente X Rua Miller , Bras District , just east of Downtown São Paulo
Theme: Women's Clothes
All the skimmy womens stuff with one top and one bottom piece at wholesale prices that will leave the women enchanted and the men with a sigh of relief...( I know this sounds old fashioned-macho and stuff... but it's definitely true in my case....)
So , here another example what you might want to look for in Bras , my nephews girlfriend bought 17 bikinis...... ( why not 18 ??? )
What to buy: If you like it , can afford it and most important of all , if it fits you , BUY IT !!!!!
Don't think twice , it's alright , Ma.....
What to pay: Peanuts.......
( or , as they say here in Brazil , for the price of bananas....)
Address: This one I don't know but there are many similar
Directions: Rua Oriente X Rua Miller in Bras District and start looking from there
