Wisconsin is the state I was born in, although I do not consider it home it holds many memories. Home is where your heart is and my heart is not there.
Wisconsin is, well was always known as "the Dairy State" If you are here you must get Wisconsin Cheese. It is the best! Pick up some Cheese Curds (they will squeak when you chew them if they are fresh) They are sold at all the grocery stores.
Wisconsin is pretty divided-by this I mean that the people and culture is quite different on the southern end of the state vs the northern end of the state. "city folk" and "country folk" At least that is how I have always seen it. The most heavily populated area of the state would be the area between Milwaukee and the capitol city of Madison and surrounding small towns and suburbs. This where I grew up and lived everywhere in between.
Milwaukee is the largest city in the state and probably the most well known. Summertime offers tons of festivals to attend in Milwaukee. Summerfest, Polishfest,Irish Fest, Circus Parade, State fair to name a few. Summerfest was always my favorite. BEER is a staple in this part of the country and football is a religion. Every baby must have a "Packers" outfit in their wardrobe. Milwaukee is also home to my favorite museum as a child-The Miwaukee Public Museum. I have very fond memories of visiting this museum and always enjoyed the turn-of-the-century Streets of Old Milwaukee inside.
Madison is an isthmus and is the capitol of the state. This is where I spent most of my growing up years. I love Madison. The city is pretty as it is surrounded by lakes, and has a nice downtown area. We visited in July last year 2009-Here is the link to Things to see in Madison
The grass isn't always greener elsewhere and Wisconsin is definitely underrated.
The State of Wisconsin is really pretty.
WI has tons of beautiful lakes, beaches, rolling hills, farmland, cool cities and every time of year there is some kind of festival going on. Wisconsin people are fun and they know how to party. Alcohol is normally involved with just about any event.
Wisconsin has 4 distinct seasons-of which I miss more than I would have thought. Spring and Fall being the most appealing weather wise to me, but Summer has tons of festivals and concerts and winter is beautiful in a cold way too.
What I miss about Wisconsin- the trees, the big old huge maple, oak, hardwood trees in the neighborhoods with sidewalks. The green rolling hills. The people, the realness of them. The high work ethic they have, friendly and yet they still mind their own business. Wisconsin food-yes i still make relatives send me cheese. I miss the rural areas(the lack of massive urban sprawl)the old red barns that still stand, the tons of festivals in the summer and fall, the good black dirt for gardening, and the lakes.
What i don't miss the negative wind chill in the winter, the humid summer days, mosquitoes, the periods of sunless days in the winter.
**We finally made a family trip back to Wisconsin in 2009 and had a lot of fun. Spent most of our time with family and friends, but we did enjoy some of the sights The Dells,
and a few days in Chicago. We took lots of photos, and will be updating.
