The great market
Ieper (in Dutch) or Ypres (in French) is an historic and tourist city.
With the 10 towns around , there are 34.758 inhabitants. There is a river the Ieperlee who's give the name on the city. It's situated on about 120 km from Brussels and 40 km from de sea (De Panne).
There are hotels, shops, restaurants, weekly local market, and so on...
The principal attractions are:the remparts, the cathedral, the cloth hall, the Flanders fields museum and the " Menen poort" Menin gate.
Ieper come for the first in 12 th century in the history: Filip from Elzas give good rights to Ieper on the Brugge - Lille way.
It' s a fortified city on the Vauban way, build from Sébastien Le Prestre.
Ieper (flamand) ou Ypres (français) est une ville historique et touristique. Ensemble avec les 10 villages de son entité, la ville compte 34.758 habitants. Elle est traversée par le canal "Ieperlee" anciennement rivière qui donna son nom à la citée.
Située à + 120 km de Bruxelles et 40 km de la mer du Nord (La Panne)
De nombreux magasins, hotels, restaurants et cafés font le bonheur des touristes. Le marché local (samedi matin) crée une animation de choix.
Les principaux centres d'intérêts sont: La halle aux draps et son beffroi, la cathédrale, le musée "Flanders fields" et la porte de Menin.
L'histoire de Ypres commence au 12è siècle par l'octroi de droits à la bonne ville de Ypres sur la route de Lille à Bruges.
Elle sera plus tard fortifiée par l'architecte Sebastien Leprêtre à la manière de Vauban.
This is the memorial of the first war in memory of the British soldiers the more known. Sir Reginald Blomfield is the architect of this "gate" of classical style. To the entry of the center city, she is the framework of the ceremony of the "Last Post" (don't lack it in any way) all the evenings at height o'clock . One find engraved on its walls the 54.896 names of disappeared soldiers from the British empire.
C'est le mémorial de la première guerre en mémoire des soldats Britanniques le plus connu. Sir Reginald Blomfield est l'architecte de cette "porte" de style classique. A l'entrée du centre ville, elle est le cadre de la cérémonie du "Last Post"(a ne manquer sous aucun prétexte) tous les soirs à vingt heures précise. On retrouve gravé sur ses murs les 54.896 noms de soldats de l'empire britannique, disparus durant les combats.

The great market looks so absolutely wonderful, but all the other architecture is so beautiful. Belgium has a lot of good monuments. You did a great job of showing this city.

Hi, what about the Australian and NZ armies that provided many men to perish amongst the Flanders fields - not only the British armies!(even if we were part of the British Empire then!)
