Very important in the Roman time

Near the museum : the Roman walls
In the first century before JC, the Roman army had here important troops.
They bild seven "chausse?s Brunehault" or transportation axes to the principal city from them. Today there is a museum where you can see the result of the recherche in the neibourgh.
Malplaquet

Also in the 18 th century, where soldiers here

On any Km from the town center. in 1709, the 80000 soldiers of the cavalery of Louis the XIV th and the 120 000 soldiers of the alliers of Malborough have here a heavy battle. The place (and the battle) is caled Malplaquet.

Also the twoo modern wars let trace elements.

In the near area of the Belgian borders, you can still see the many bunkers witness of the not so glorious past of the humanity.

Nice page. I liked your remark on the marshal's wound being commemorated while the thousands of dead soldiers were ignored.
