La Châtre

by wandeljp - last update: May 17, 2007

Terre d'histoire et de culture.

La Châtre : The Church

land of history and culture

La Châtre: Inspiration earth artistic, the Country of La Châtre has the romantic soul. Georges Sand (1804-1876) itself there installa in his family domain of Nohant where she wrote its famous country novels (The Mare to the devil, the Small Fadette, Les Maîtres sonneurs), that have for framework it "Black Valley". She there welcomes the biggest artists of his era such Chopin, Liszt, Delacroix and Balzac.

More recently, Sainte Sévère, town of the south of the Indre department , uses setting to the film "Day of party", turned by the film director Jacques Tati in 1947.

We liked our current stay in this small welcoming city.

Third step on the pelgrim way 2007

It was our third day in the Berry on the way to Santiago de Compostella after Le Chatelêt and Châteaumeillant.

La Châtre : Upstairs for the visit.

Lovely town with some interesting medieval buildings. Loved the gargoyles on the Holy Germain church and the castles. I wish my French was as good as yours.
