"Dalmatian Coastline" Dalmatia - Dubrovnik Region by acugeek

The Dalmatian coastline of Croatia is the most underrated, and one of the most stunningly beautiful, places I've been. I went there 'cause I like dogs, and I thought it was named after a dog breed (alas, 'twas the other way around), and my only disappointment was seeing only one Dalmatian of the canine variety. This is a very interesting time to go: the last Balkan war has only been over for 10 years or so, and Dubrovnik has already (mostly) recovered her beauty.

The island of Hvar was one of my favorite places: very chilled, easy-going, lots of warm water to dip into; great food; and beauteous humans. Pretty reasonably priced as well, and many rooms (in people's houses) came with ocean views like this one.

Dubrovnik is a beautiful walled city at the southern end of the Dalmatian coastline. Heavily bombed during the last war, it has been almost entirely rebuilt, and is worth a few days of attention.

• Pros:Gorgeous scenery, easy to navigate, warm water
• Cons:The people didn't smile much, but I wouldn't either if I had seen what they have
