The main station is the first thing most visitors see of Zurich. It is not just a railway station, there is also a shopping centre inside and a lot of events in the main hall. For example there is a weekly market, a cinema in summer and the chrismas market in Dezember. You can also find a tourist information here.

This church is one of the most famous in Zurich. Its construction started 1100 and was completed 1220, after a fire 1781 the towers were rebuilt. The Grossmuenster was the starting point of the reformation by Huldrych Zwingli who was priest there until he died 1519. One of the towers is open for visitors, but you have to climb a few steps. Those who do will be rewarded by a magnificent view of the oldtown and the lake. (Entrance fee: 2sFr)

If you are in Zurich you have to visit the Uetliberg. It is just a 20-minute train ride from the central station, there are two trains every hour until midnight. From the top station it is a short walk to Uto Kulm where you have a great view. There are also a hotel and a restaurant, in summer there is a cinema. You can climb a small tower to have a better view. If you want to take a walk there are a lot of trails, for example it is about 2 hours to Felsenegg, where you can take a cable car to Adliswil and a train back to Zurich.

The parks and meadows on the lakeside are the best place to relax in Zurich. In summer a lot of people are there for sunbathing, swimming or eating. My favourite places are the Zurichhorn or the meadows in front of the Rentenanstalt. You can just walk around the lake and maybe combine it with a visit to the chinese garden or a boat trip. It is also possible to rent pedalos and in July/August there is an Open air cinema.

When you visit Zurich in summer time you should take a lake cruise. There are departures half-hourly from Buerkliplatz at the end of the Bahnhofstrasse and there are cruises between 1,5 and 5 hours. In addition to the motorboats there are two paddle-steamers, but they are only in service when the weather is nice. If you have a daypass for the public transport you have to buy an additional ticket. There are also boat departures in winter, but only twice a day.

The Bahnhofstrasse is the main shopping street of Zurich, connecting the main station with the lake. On both sides and in side streets like the Rennweg you will find a lot of shops and boutiques. There are also many banks located there especially at Paradeplatz. Most sights of Zurich are within walking distance, for example the Lindenhof and the churches Grossmuenster, Fraumuenster and St. Peter.
