if you start your trip to this place, asking for tourist information would be great, I suggest you to travel with guide or group . but if really want to go alone would be great as well, remember your Chinese must be good so that you can communicate well with the locals, the local up there can't speak English at all

There are bus every day and every few hours from Longyan city ( old bus station) to Tulou and yongding county , it takes about 1.3 h arrives in Yongding and almost 2 hours arrive in Tulou.

you can take the bus from LOngyan city to Tulou directly and stay in Tulou, there are some guesthouses and hotels, I haven't stayed there so, i think it's quite acceptable, or stay in Yongding will be better, there are some nice and clean hotel and guesthouse in the town.
