Indianapolis: who? | Soldiers Monument in downtown circle |
Most people don't realize how big Indianapolis really is. This is the 12th largest city in the country. And believe it or not, in the Greater Indianapolis area we are at about 1 million people. I was even shocked to hear that. But it does make since around 5 o'clock traffic! We virtually have everything here. A basketball team, football team, Car Racing, Baseball team, a WNBA team, hockey team, as for sports. We have something like 6 or 7 malls, historical areas, two clubing areas (downtown & broadripple), a couple art musuems, a state musuem, a childrens' musuem, and an Indian Musuem; a zoo, fancy restaurants, and even a few places for concerts. |
Indianapolis Cultural Districts There are several areas in Indianapolis. I am going to take pictures of all of them and put them on here. I am only going to put the best stuff on here. If you are interested in boring things like quilting musuems, they won't be on here. It is true, we do have a quilting musuem! It is probably Indy's biggest secret because most people are embrassed that it exists! I'm just kidding, but i'm still not putting a tip about it. The Cultural Districts: Broadripple, Fountain Square, Indiana Avenue, Mass. Ave., the Canal & White River State Park, & the Wholesale district. www.discoverculturaldistricts.com |
| | Public Art & Local/National events The public art scene & local exhibits is going strong in Indy this summer. I am very excited about the wonderful things to see. First off there is a great walking tour in downtown of some amazing sculptures made of cut tires. And then a new exhibit downtown, bodies exhibit. It is located under the webster grill resturant, which is on the corner washington and illinois. It is $22 adult and $18 for kids. But if you check other cultural locations around town you can find a $4 off coupon. Another great thing to mention is the "live forever" exhibit at the IMA (indianapolis museum of art). A very cool exhibition of egyptian sarcophagus. They are on loan until Sept. 7th from the Brooklyn museum. This exhibit is $12, but regular entry to the museum is free! |
