They say "It runs in the family". It is pretty much the same for me. I got my travelling genes from my father. I was only 8, when he first took me to China by road. That was quite some travelling that I did in my childhood.
Since then, I have developed love for an open road, lonely valleys, lofty peaks and mesmerizing lakes.
On October the 8th, a deadly earthquake struck the north eastern parts of Pakistan. Some of the areas most severly hit were Balakot, Batagram, Alai Valley, Mansehra in NWFP; and Bagh, Muzaffarabad and some other cities and villages in Azad Kashmir (the Pakistani controlled Kashmir).
I took part, first, in the rescue mission and then in the relief work.
On October the 9th, I joined my other class mates and our team of 70 volunteers were amongst the first few rescue teams to reach Balakot. We spent some 2 days in the harsh climate among the ever jolting scary mountains. The town of Balakot was all flat. There were no standing buildings. Just the fallen rooftops everywhere. Almost every family had lost atleast 2-3 family members to the destruction. We saw dead bodies, fallen buildings, cutted limbs, injured people, and heard the cries of parents who had lost their children and of the children who had lost their parents. And among them, there were also those who had lost both their parents and their siblings. The whole two days were like an eye opener. May God keep us all safe.
My second venture was relatively quite an easy one. One of my friend, Asad, who had been working as a relief worker in Muzaffarabad (Azad Kashmir) called me to assist him for the last two days of his mission. So i joined him and assisted him in carrying food supplies to far flung villages via a helicopter. It was quite good an experience for an adventurer like me. I am glad I did that. Thank you Asad!

Hello Shadan, thanks for the advice. Also I have to buy some gifts for my family, where should I go for some small jewellery items or little antique souvenirs for them in Peshawar?
