For a peep at a typical German market, you must visit the bustling NEUENHEIM market at Neuenheimer Marktplatz - opened twice a week on Saturdays and Wednesdays from around 7am until 1pm. It's not everyday that a tourist go scouting around to visit a market like that... but hey, sometimes it's better to do extraordinary things whilst on a holiday and check out the places a normal tourist wouldn't go.

The market sells a range of fresh produce like fruits, vegetables, flowers, etc. And you know what? You can also take some really great photos here.

Oh, the one thing that intrigued me tremendously was the TYPE of cars that were parked around the marketplace on a Saturday. Porsches, Audis, Mercedes, BMWs.....and somehow you'll soon realize that perhaps this place is a shopping haven for the rich and famous of Heidelberg??!! Hm...

Stroll along the Hauptstrasse, a pedestrianized street lined with many lovely shops and cafes. My kind of place to unwind... :-)

This seemingly endless cobblestoned street is lined with people at all hours of the day and night. Did you know that Hauptstrasse is also the most traveled street here in Heidelberg? Amazing. And most of the buildings here are built hundreds of years ago.

For those amongst you who love to sip a cup of coffee - the al fresco style - you can choose to do so at the many cafes lining the Hauptstrasse.

Would you also like to know what I've observed, during my stay here in Heidelberg, about the Germans?? Why, they seem to have this passion for ice creams (called ice) since there are almost as many ice shops here in Haupstrasse as there are cafes!!! The other frequently seen stores are undoubtedly the Bakeries and Apothecaries. Hm....

Check out Altstadt - the Old Town of Heidelberg and its numerous tourist attractions. Since this town is also sometimes referred to as a University Town, make sure you don't miss out visiting the following places:-

(1) Universitätsplatz and the old university, a Baroque-style building.

(2) The Student prison in Augustinergasse.

(3) The Jesuitenkiche (Jesuit's church) on Schulgasse.

(4) Markplatz - a great place for a cuppa coffee!!

(5) Alte Brücke (the Old Bridge).

(6) Brückentor (the Bridge Gate)... a very good spot to take some photos!

Then, join the queue to have your picture taken with the famed Heidelberg monkey. You'll only know what I'm talking about when you're actually there.
