Name of Shop: Shops Along Union Square
Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Anne Klein, Donna Karan, Anna Sui et al.
What To Buy: Do ensure that your luggage has enough space. Why? SanFran has LOTS of great shopping! Better still if you can bring along an extra bag in cloth material (like what I did). :-)) If you're coming from Europe or Asia, buy only the American brand products. They are really, really worth it (read: cheap). Brands like Clinique, Prescriptives, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Anne Klein, Donna Karan, Anna Sui, Estee Lauder etc. are really good buys. I gave Calvin Klein products a miss because there are just too many imitations right now in the market (to say it's being flooded is an understatement!). Sorry, Calvin! Happy Shopping!!
What To Pay: Cheap, Cheap, Cheap vis-a-vis prices in Europe and Asia for American-made products.

Name of Shop: NEIMAN MARCUS
Neiman Marcus - for the absolutely clueless out there - is an upscale department store located in a beautiful vintage building selling everything you would expect of a department store. My favorite sections in Neiman Marcus are definitely the skincare/perfume, women's clothing, men's clothing and footwear sections. The service here is first class but I must admit, the sales staff here can be quite snooty. But so far, they have been very patient with me even when I took a while (and tried on more than a dozen pair of shoes) before deciding to buy a pair. Do drop by The Rotunda Restaurant and the Fresh Market Café - when you feel you need a break from your shopping expedition!
What To Buy: They have most designer stuffs here from Jil Sander, Calvin Klein, Salvatore Ferragamo (my favorite Italian footwear), Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Gucci, Christian Dior, Donna Karan et al.
What To Pay: Most of the things sold here are what we would term as - upmarket. However, it is really much cheaper to shop for American brand products in Neiman Marcus than say, in Europe or Asia. Clinique and Prescriptives skincare products are at least 50% cheaper here vs buying them in Asia! This was where I replenished all my Clinique skincare products that will last me for at least one year ;-)
