| The famed Carmel Mission... |
Mention the name CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA and you'll immediate think of.... a quaint European village type of atmosphere... with open-air markets... candle-lighted storefront cafes... cozy pubs for the night owls... and a beach with sand as pure as crystals(!!).
Ah, c'est la vie!
Being somewhat of a Bohemian at heart (yes, yours truly), I certainly felt very much at home in this place. Mom, it's O.K., I'm coming home. :-)) But seriously, I wouldn't mind living in this lovely town. |

| | Did you also know that Clint Eastwood (yes, the Hollywood actor) used to be the Mayor of this rich seaside town?
The spectre of Clint still looms large. Believe me, you might even find mentions of him in the local paper OR see some souvenirs in the shop windows in town. Last time we were there, it seemed that every place had the issue of Cowboys and Indians(!) that has Clint on the cover. ;-)) |
Anyway, Carmel-by-the-Sea has become such a magnet for wealthy people that, over time, the artists who originally created the mystique of the Bohemian village atmosphere in the woods by the sea, could no longer afford to live here. ;-((
The city was also founded by artists and writers such as Mary DeNeale Morgan, Jane Gallatin Powers, William Ritschel, Mary Austin and Robinson Jeffers whose home - Tor House is open on weekends. :-)) My favorite American artist, ***** Thomas Kinkade***** has a gallery here. I love, love, love ALL of Mr Kinkade's works. His paintings are simply amazing and breathtaking!
Please read this page together with my pages on:
MONTEREY, PEBBLE BEACH and BIG SUR
as they are all closely related.
Thanks!
