  • For culture vultures (ahem!), don't forget to pop by the Muziektheater to catch a 'live' ballet or opera performance. If you want to know what's currently showing, DO check with your hotel concierge. He'd be able to help.

  • I'm sure you know that there are lots and lots and lots of HIP clubs here in Amsterdam dishing out House Music, Techno, Trance et al at all these joints. The Leidseplein district is THE center for nightlife. And heading the list of cool joints are the famous Paradiso and Melkweg. You'd NEVER be bored in this city!

  • You must check out their 'brown cafes' here in Amsterdam.

I didn't realize what brown cafes mean until a Dutch friend educated me on the real meaning of it. :-))

So, let me now try and explain it to you... and you can see if I've paid attention to what I was being taught/ told!

Brown Cafes are actually a warm, comfortable meeting and drinking place(s) for the Dutch and their cool friends. They mentioned that they are called 'Brown' because of the walls that were stained by centuries of tobacco smoke wafting through the air! And they like to use the term 'gezellig' because that's the Dutch word for cozy or comfortable. So, order a glass of gin and Heinekin (Dutch beer), my friends! I hope I've explained the above term correctly.

Dress Code: Smart Casuals; hip dressing only, please. The Dutch people DO dress very fashionably... although some of them look grungy - but in a hip way, ya know?
