Risotto Beccofino = Mama mia!
Your trip to Milan is only half complete if you don't order the "Cotoletta Milanese". I tried this dish the other day and it was mama mia! There is another dish which I love. Yes, I'm referring to "Risotto Milanese". This is supposedly Milan's traditional dish.
Risotto Beccofino is another dish that I recently fell in love with. Gosh... How can I ever stay slim with all these delicious Italian food tempting me constantly? So much for my will-power huh?
Well, if you wish to impress your future suocera (read: your awesome mother-in-law in English) or suocero (father-in-law)**, try learning how to cook these dishes. What? This advice is most apt for me? Sigh. I know, I know... I'm a lousy cook. Give me a break, will ya? I'm still learning how to fry an omelette.... I promise, eventually - I'll learn how to make delicious pasta and even, bake a nice tiramisu! ;-) And I'll invite you folks to my place for a lovely homecook meal. Note: Insurance (against food poisoning) is not required. ;-)
Where to find these Italian dishes in Milan?
Any good and authentic restaurant. If you're a foreigner/ tourist, you can head to any of Italian eaterie inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuale.

On my way to church...
Back to the CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA DELLE GRAZIE and Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper".....
This magnificnet church was built in the 15th century by Guiniforte Solari. An elegant facade was later added by the architect Bramante. When the Last Supper was being painted by the Great Genious himself, it was appropriately placed on the refectory wall of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Today, this painting is one of the world's most viewed and may I humbly suggest that you purchase tickets prior to visiting the church in order to avoid the lengthy queues. These queues are particularly bad during the Autumn and Spring months.
Note: Leonardo da Vinci "Last Supper" is open :
From Tuesdays to Sundays, 8:15am to 6:45pm
Closed on Mondays
To book, please phone: +39-02-89421146
(Mondays-Fridays 9.00am-6.00pm, Saturdays 9.00am-2.00pm)
The operator will give you a code number and the time of the visit. You can then collect and pay for tickets on the day of your visit, at least half an hour before the scheduled time.
Come window-shopping with me at the Galleria!
Welcome to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II - built in Milan in the year 1878 and also known locally as - Il Salotto di Milano.
This 4-storey glass-domed atrium is the world’s FIRST super-shopping mall. The sidewalk cafes, super-bookstores, chic restaurants, and of course, most notably - THE Prada boutique are great testaments as to why no other malls dotting this globe can even dare rival the Galleria (sorry Harrod's of London!).
It is here that the original PRADA flagship store first saw its empire bloomed to its current mega global operations.
Bored with Prada? Why not try Prada's SLIGHTLY cheaper range - MIU MIU with its equally impressive clothing line and delicate stiletto heels?
The brilliant architect managed to build an AMAZING arched glass roof over the intersection of 2 major Milan streets! The 4-storey domed glass roof connected the tops of existing commercial buildings which faced inward to beautiful tiled walkways. The glass arcade was certainly a luxury to 19th century shoppers.
The Galleria certainly helped propel Milan to become the world's #1 fashion capital by attracting designer boutiques and stylish fashionistas to shop here.
10 Corso Como - THE place to shop in Milan
Yes, I'm referring to 10 Corso Como.
If there is a mecca for the Milanese shopper and foreigner, 10 Corso Como is it. This is definitely the hippest department store in the whole of Milan and Italy. No, make that the entire Planet Earth. Don't believe me? C'mon in here and see it for yourself.
This whole mall (if you can call it as that) consists of a collection of open-air souks, laid out a la bazaar-style - perhaps best described as what you might do if you were to sell everything you owned at an elegant garage sale.
After browsing through the many eclectic departments within 10 Corso Como, you'll soon want to pop in to the 10 Corso Como Cafe and unwind over a refreshing glass of... perhaps...fruit juice or smoothies.
Hungry? No problem.
May I humbly recommend their equally delicious hummus and couscous. Yes, you'll be spoilt for choices here... and to think you don't even need to fly over to Morocco to taste delicious couscous!

The Dead Christ - A famous masterpiece here
The first thing that will run through your thoughts is this: "What a lovely and big museum!".
This museum is indeed impressive.
If you're an art lover (like - ahem - me!), then head straight to the PINACOTECA BRERA or Academy of Fine Arts Milan. This Academy was founded in 1809 and is housed in the beautiful Palazzo Brera. It contains some of Italy's finest art treasures from the 15th century onwards. The most famous paintings are Raphael's "Marriage of the Virgin" and Mantegna's "The Dead Christ." The surroundings are elegant and refined as are many of the paintings including some of the finest works ever produced by artists such as Rembrandt, Van Dyck and El Greco. Please give yourself a few hours to go through all the different artworks. No point rushing just to prove to your friends back home that "I was here". ;-)
Er... for Gallery opening times and advice on how to purchase tickets, please check with your hotel concierge or refer to one of many reliable guidebooks on Milan.

An afternoon at the CASTELLO SFORZESCO
The CASTELLO SFORZESCO is a spectacular fortified palace built by the Visconti and the Sforzas, Signori of Milan, who ruled over Northern Italy between the late Middle Ages and Renaissance.
Particularly outstanding is the Museo d'Arte Antica, containing both paintings and sculptures. Its exhibits include the Rondanini Pietà... the last and perhaps most moving masterpiece by the great maestro himself - Michelangelo (sniff).
** Photo: I'll have to re-scan all my pictures again. I accidentally deleted my pics and this little scaled-down photo of mine - was what I could retrieve from my PC cache. ;-( **

Attending Mass. Shh! Quiet please??
Whether you're a Catholic, a Protestant or an Atheist, you should experience what it's like to attend Mass in the world's 3rd largest Cathedral. The feeling? Definitely - awesome.
Hello? Was that you that just snored? Sigh.
Seems like the moment you mention the word 'attend mass', half the population falls asleep instantly! Hm....
The Opulent Costume Room at La Scala
When you join the guided tour, one of the rooms you'll get to see is - the opulent Costume Room. Amazing. I feel like donning a tutu and dance to the Swan Lake! (Joking yeah. I don't know ballet). ;-)
The Lobby at La Scala.
I can't wait to go for my night of Opera here at the La Scala. I'm sure it'll be great! The only opera I've had the pleasure of watching is "AIDA" - which was sung entirely in Italian. At the time, I had absolutely no knowledge of the Italian language. But thankfully, they had 2 huge screens beside the stage - with English subtitles. The only snag is... I forgot to bring my binoculars. :-(
In any case, you should join a guided day tour for an intimate look inside the La Scala. No regrets!
